Bowls

Crown Green?

Following a successful afternoon of U3A bowling on 3rd June [2009] and a continued interest from several of those who took part, we are now having regular (*) bowling afternoons every Thursday from 2.00 pm until about 4.00pm at Bowness Bowling Club.
Those who have never played before and who were not able to join us in June [2009] are welcome to come along and try their hand at the game.
For those who are not members the green fee is £2 per afternoon and refreshments can be purchased at the club.
"Just come along any Thursday or, if you would like more information, ring Bob or Jo Wallace.

(*)Such a game is obviously weather-dependent and, if interested, please 'watch this space' and keep in touch through the Newsletter.

Croquet

In-Off!

Warm Spring weather in May 2010 made a good beginning to our first summer of Croquet on the lawns of Calgarth Park, Troutbeck Bridge.
The aim was to play Association Croquet as played at Hurlingham, the home of Croquet.

We are looking forward to a glorious summer of croquet afternoons this year.
If you would like to join us, watch for details in the Newsletter.

Bridge

Bridge

We meet on Friday afternoons from 2.00pm to 5.00pm at the Skelwith Bridge Community Centre for Bridge, tea and chat.

Many of our Group learned Bridge with the U3A and you don't need to find a partner in order to come along.

  • Have you ever thought that you might like to learn how to play Bridge? Maybe you have played Whist or Solo Whist and thought you would like to dip your toe into the world of Bridge. Here is your opportunity!
Some members of the Bridge Group are offering lessons in a non-competitive situation. i.e. in player's homes at mutual convenience (NOT FRIDAY AFTERNOONS).
Interested? ..See the Newsletter for contacts.

We need you as much as you need us! Ring the co-ordinators: telephone number in the Newsletter.

    Bridge News

Please note that some of the 'older' News will be transferred from the Home Page to this space, from time to time, as below:

  • On 25th April 2008, in spite of an articulated lorry being stuck on Red Bank Road at Grasmere and the big fire in Ambleside’s new shopping centre, our guests, Penrith U3A, managed to get to Skelwith Bridge on time.
We had an enjoyable afternoon of Bridge, with splendid refreshments supplied by members.
The results didn’t stop Penrith from inviting us back for a return game. We are looking forward to a visit in the near future.
